An Early Morning Visit

We got up and over to the hospital ealry this morning and settled in for more than an hour of quality time with Eleanor. She is very happy and the fluid coming from her G-tube (connected to the lower portion of her stomach is a good color and the fluid from the Nasal Gastric tube is clear. Good signs that things are progressing. No bowel movements yet but the nurses tell us that her bowels are making noise so let the movement begin! I keep thinking of Kramer on Seinfeld when he was constipated and tells Jerry 'I'm getting no..... peristalsis!'. Ellie's mother and I are well in tune with our own peristalsis so if that has anything to do with it, her troops should be moving soon.

I am contacting Boston Children's Hospital today about getting a second opinion on Ellie's treatment. There is a center for treatment of Short Bowel Syndrome at Children's and although we are very pleased with how things are going at Yale, a second opinion will help us understand the situation and potential other options. Hopefully we will hear from them soon.

I have always wanted to live in Boston. This would be a heck of a way to get there.

The good news cotinues! No poop has ever been more anticipated- keep us posted on the poop patrol. She has a home court advantage. Just wrote( and then deleted) related memories of Ellie's father when he was younger. Won't go there!

Boston is a great city but I'm liking New haven, more and more.

Who would have thought we'd all be waiting for poop!?!? Ellie is beautiful! She has the longest fingers I've ever seen (except maybe her Aunt Kate's)! Let's hope the poop arrives soon!
Gib - your updates are great - I'm always checking for them!!! Do you think we might see a picture of the big event? Soory, I guess that's a little gross! At least let us know when it arrive!

I should have guessed that it would take some scatalogical humor to get Anne to make her first comment. The prim and proper Bucknam girls sure do love a good poop and fart joke.

After learning to spell his name, poop was the next word Ellie's cousin Tommy learned to spell (quite proudly). The word still sends Emily and Tom into convulsions! We'll be waiting...

Love, Betsy

Anne asked for a picture of the first poop. All the Brogans remember the picture that Louise took-of Jeremy's effort-Ellie needs to make it a tradition.
